How does one describe the most important employee at Arcata Animal Hospital? Not a very easy task. Recently the Arcata Animal Hospital traveling journalist had the opportunity to interview Malcolm Z.

So Malcolm, what everyone wants to know is how do you stay so soft? |
| Malcolm: |
Well, I think I would have to attribute that quality to the excellent care I receive here on the job at Arcata Animal Hospital. I am frequently petted, combed and kept flea free. I receive regular medical check ups and stay current on my vaccines. And finally there is the food. Here at Arcata Animal Hospital I feast on only top quality foods. |
| Reporter: |
Speaking of foods I have noticed a white and purple bag of food laying on the floor in the retail area. Who is that food for? |
| Malcolm: |
Oh, that. Well, . . . it's mine. |
| Reporter: |
And what might it be doing on the floor? |
| Malcolm: |
This is a little embarrassing but I am just plain lazy, I do not like to travel far for a meal. So I used to rip open bags of food in the waiting area. Sometimes it was feline W/D other times it was canine R/D and then there was the time I tried kitten food. Boy is that powerful stuff. And sometimes just for fun I would rip into a bag. The employees tried everything to get me to stop (they didn't seem to like that behavior), spraying me with water, not allowing me in that area, sending me to bed when I did rip into a bag. None of it worked, until they put that bag of my special diet out and I just don't have the heart to continue in my naughty ways, plus food is so close now. |
| Reporter: |
So if food is so close, then what do you spend your day doing? |
| Malcolm: |
Boy where do I start? Well, there is hospital patrol every 2 hours -- I make sure all employees are working. Then there is patient rounds -- every 3 hours I check all hospitalized patients and make sure that they are all comfortable and that there isn't any extra food left over that I need to sample. There is also my position as Supervising Receptionist. This is quite a tough job. And finally, probably my most important job is to lay there and receive pets and scratching from all who might need to do that. |
| Reporter: |
Interesting. So do you spend all of your time inside or do you ever go outside? |
| Malcolm: |
To be honest with you the outdoors terrifies me. I do venture outside on rare occasion. But when I do it is just to grab a small bite of grass and then run back inside. I have spent my whole life inside Arcata Animal Hospital since I was 4 months old. One time a nice employee took me home for a long holiday and I was so frightened that I spent the entire time under a bed. I just love Arcata Animal Hospital. |
| Reporter: |
Malcolm, you have such a busy, full life what do you do to relax? |
| Malcolm: |
Yes, my life is quite busy, but I always make time for number one. I make an effort to relax for at least 14 to 16 hours per day. My favorite way to relax is to enjoy a little nip of quality catnip and then sprawl out on the top of the copy machine. That is the ultimate! |
| Reporter: |
Any final words? |
| Malcolm: |
Yes, Arcata Animal Hospital staffed with wonderful people and I just love it here! Thank you all. |
